LaTeX to Word Converter
Paste LaTeX source or upload a .tex file and this LaTeX to Word converter returns a .docx document. Equations become native, editable Word equations, and headings, lists and tables keep their structure, so co-authors and editors who work in Word can open and change it.
Free with an account. Only the document body is converted; the preamble is replaced by a standard one.
How to convert LaTeX to Word
Paste or upload the LaTeX
Paste a complete document or just its body into the box, or upload a .tex file of up to 1 MB. A sample is already filled in, so you can try the LaTeX to Word conversion before using your own file. Comments starting with % are ignored, so you can paste a working draft as it is. Partial snippets without \begin{document} also convert, which is handy for a single section.
Download the .docx
Click Download Word file. The source is converted on the server with pandoc and the .docx downloads within a few seconds. The export is free; you only need to be signed in, which keeps the service from being abused. The LaTeX you paste is converted on the fly and is not stored after the download.
Open it in Word or Google Docs
The file opens in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice and Pages. From there you can track changes, add comments or apply a publisher's Word template, while your LaTeX source stays the master copy. When the edits come back, you can apply them in LaTeX and run the LaTeX to Word conversion again for the next round.
What the Word file contains
Editable equations
Inline and displayed math, including fractions, sums, matrices and aligned derivations, is turned into Word's own equation format, not into pictures. Anyone can click an equation in Word and edit it, which is the main reason to use a LaTeX to Word converter rather than a PDF. Greek letters, operators and accents all use Word's math fonts, so the equations look at home in the document.
Structure and tables
Sections and subsections become Word headings, so the navigation pane and the table of contents work. Lists, bold and italic text, footnotes and tabular environments come through as their Word equivalents, ready for normal editing. Text in Chinese and other languages is kept as it is, so bilingual documents survive the LaTeX to Word step too. Tables keep their rows and columns, and their cells stay editable Word table cells.
What stays behind
Only the body between \begin{document} and \end{document} is converted, with a standard preamble. Put the title in the body or add it in Word; macros from your own preamble and images loaded from files are not carried over, and citations appear as their keys because no bibliography file is read.
Tips for a clean Word file
Keep the source simple
Standard commands from amsmath and plain LaTeX convert best. If you rely on your own \newcommand shortcuts, define them inside the document body or replace them before converting, so the LaTeX to Word result shows the intended symbols. Packages beyond the standard set are ignored, so check pages that depended on special layouts.
Figures and references
Insert figures into the Word file after downloading, at the places marked in the text. For references, paste the formatted bibliography from your PDF at the end, or let a reference manager such as Zotero rebuild it in Word. Cross-references written with ef may need a quick check in Word, since numbering is regenerated there.
Need LaTeX from Word instead?
When a co-author sends edits back as a .docx file, the Word to LaTeX converter turns the document into LaTeX again, equations included. Using both converters lets a LaTeX author and a Word author work on the same paper.

LaTeX to Word questions
- How to use LaTeX in Word?
- Word can type single equations in LaTeX: insert an equation, switch its input to LaTeX and type the code. For a whole LaTeX document, use this LaTeX to Word converter to get a .docx file with every equation already converted.
- Can I convert LaTeX to Word?
- Yes. Paste the source or upload the .tex file here and download the Word document. Equations stay editable and headings, lists and tables keep their structure. The LaTeX to Word download usually takes only a few seconds.
- How to convert LaTeX equation to Word?
- For one equation, paste it into Word's equation editor in LaTeX mode. For many, convert the document here: every equation becomes a native Word equation.
- How to use Pandoc to convert LaTeX to Word?
- Install pandoc and run pandoc paper.tex -o paper.docx. This page runs pandoc for you, so nothing needs installing, and it removes file-loading commands for safety first. Pandoc is the open-source tool behind this converter as well, so the results match a local run.
- Can Overleaf export LaTeX to Word?
- Overleaf exports PDF and source files but not Word. Copy your source from Overleaf, paste it here and download the .docx. In Overleaf, open the menu and download the source as a .zip, then paste the main .tex file here.
- Can I open the result in Google Docs?
- Yes. Upload the .docx to Google Drive and open it with Google Docs; equations remain editable there too. Comments and suggestions made in Google Docs can then be applied back to your LaTeX source.
- Is there a free LaTeX to Word converter online?
- Yes, this one is free; you only need to sign in. Each download is limited to 1 MB of LaTeX source.
- Can I convert LaTeX to Word with Python?
- Yes, through pandoc, for example with the pypandoc package: pypandoc.convert_file("paper.tex", "docx", outputfile="paper.docx"). Running pandoc yourself also lets you add a reference .docx for custom Word styles.
- Can AI convert LaTeX to Word?
- There is no need for AI here: LaTeX already describes the structure, so pandoc converts it exactly and quickly. AI is useful the other way round, when reading a PDF or a scan. That is why this LaTeX to Word converter needs no credits.
- Can I convert a LaTeX PDF to Word?
- If you have the source, convert the source here for the best result. If you only have the PDF, first turn it into LaTeX with the PDF to LaTeX converter, then download Word from the result.
- What is kept in the Word file?
- Headings, paragraphs, lists, emphasis, footnotes, tables and equations. The preamble, its macros, images loaded from files and the bibliography are not, so add the title, figures and references in Word. Everything that is converted stays editable in Word.
- Do I need an account?
- Yes, a free account. Signing in lets us limit how often files are converted, so the service stays fast for everyone.
