LaTeX to PNG
Type a LaTeX equation and download it as an image. This LaTeX to PNG converter renders the formula in your browser and lets you pick the size, color and background, so it is ready for slides, documents, websites or chat.

Type the equation
Paste or type math-mode LaTeX, without dollar signs. The preview renders with KaTeX as you type and names any error. Display mode gives the large, centered style of a displayed equation; inline mode matches an equation inside a sentence. For long formulas, build them in the equation editor first, where a toolbar inserts symbols for you.
Set size, color and background
Font size sets how big the equation is drawn, and resolution multiplies the pixels, so a 4× PNG stays sharp in print. The image size updates as you change them. Pick any text color and a transparent, white or custom background, plus padding around the edge.
Download or copy it
Choose PNG, SVG or JPG and press Download, or copy the image straight to the clipboard and paste it into slides, a document or a chat. The LaTeX to PNG conversion runs entirely in your browser, so there is no upload and no wait.
PNG, SVG or JPG?
PNG for slides and documents
PNG keeps sharp edges and supports transparency, which makes it the usual choice for equations in PowerPoint, Keynote, Word or Google Slides. Use 2× for screens and 4× or more for print. A LaTeX to PNG image cannot be edited later, so keep the code too.
SVG when it has to scale
SVG is a vector format: it stays crisp at any zoom and can be edited in Inkscape or Illustrator. The fonts are embedded, so the file is larger than a PNG. Websites, posters and design tools that accept SVG are where it shines.
JPG only when required
JPG compresses with small artifacts around thin lines and has no transparency, so the background is always filled. Use it only for systems that reject PNG. For anything else, a LaTeX to PNG export looks cleaner at the same size.
Using equation images elsewhere
Presentations
For a dark slide theme, set the text color to white and keep the background transparent. Export at the font size you will use on the slide, so equations across slides match. Paste with Ctrl+V after Copy image. Keynote, Google Slides and Canva accept the same file, and a transparent PNG can be resized on the slide without a white box around it.
Websites, Markdown and chat
Many forums, chat apps and Markdown editors cannot render LaTeX. A PNG works everywhere; put the LaTeX code in the alt text so screen readers and search engines can still read it. Discord, Slack, GitHub issues and email all show a LaTeX to PNG image the same way, even where the reader has no math support.
Back in a LaTeX document
Inside LaTeX, keep the equation as code rather than an image: it stays sharp and searchable. Use the equation editor to write it, and the LaTeX to PNG converter only for places outside LaTeX. If you only have an old image of an equation, our image to LaTeX converter turns it back into code.

LaTeX image questions
- How to include PNG in LaTeX?
- Load graphicx and write \includegraphics[width=0.5\textwidth]{file.png} inside a figure environment with a \caption. Overleaf needs the PNG uploaded to the project first.
- Can LaTeX use SVG?
- Not directly. The svg package converts SVG files through Inkscape, which must be installed and needs shell escape. Converting the SVG to PDF first is often simpler.
- How to include SVG in LaTeX?
- Load the svg package and write \includesvg{file}, compiling with --shell-escape and Inkscape installed. Or export the SVG as a PDF and use \includegraphics.
- Can I save tables as PNG from LaTeX?
- Simple tables written as an array in math mode render here. For a full tabular, compile it with the standalone document class and convert the PDF to PNG, for example with pdftoppm.
- How can I convert an image to LaTeX code?
- That is the reverse of LaTeX to PNG. Upload a photo or screenshot of the equation to our converter, which reads it and returns the LaTeX code.
- How to convert a SVG to PDF LaTeX?
- Open the SVG in Inkscape and save it as PDF, or run inkscape file.svg --export-type=pdf. Then include the PDF with \includegraphics. The svg package automates the same steps.
- Why won't my PNG image show up in LaTeX?
- Usually the path or file name is wrong, or the file is missing from the Overleaf project. Old latex-to-DVI workflows cannot read PNG at all; compile with pdfLaTeX, XeLaTeX or LuaLaTeX.
- Should I use PNG or JPG images in LaTeX?
- PNG for equations, diagrams and screenshots, which have sharp edges; JPG for photographs. For anything you can export as a vector, PDF is better than both, because it stays sharp at any zoom and keeps text selectable.
- Can LaTeX use PNG?
- Yes. pdfLaTeX, XeLaTeX and LuaLaTeX all include PNG files with \includegraphics from the graphicx package.
- How do I get a high-resolution PNG from LaTeX?
- Set the resolution to 4× or 8× before downloading; the image size shows the pixel count. A 4× PNG of a 32 px equation is roughly 1,500 pixels wide, enough for a full slide or a 300 dpi print at normal size. For unlimited sharpness, export SVG instead.
- Can I convert LaTeX to PNG with a transparent background?
- Yes, transparent is the default background for PNG and SVG. Only JPG fills the background, with white or your custom color. A transparent LaTeX to PNG image sits cleanly on any slide or page color.
- Can I change the color of the equation image?
- Yes. Pick any text color before exporting. You can also color parts of the equation with \color{red}{x} in the LaTeX itself.
- Should I export a LaTeX equation as SVG or PNG?
- SVG for the web and anything that will be scaled or edited; PNG for slides, documents and chat apps, which accept it everywhere. When unsure, a LaTeX to PNG export at 4× is a safe default.
- How do I convert LaTeX to PNG with Python?
- Matplotlib draws math without a LaTeX install: put r'$\frac{a}{b}$' in plt.text and call savefig with dpi=300 and transparent=True. sympy.preview uses a real LaTeX installation.
- Can I convert TikZ or a whole LaTeX document to PNG?
- Not on this page, which renders math only. Compile the TikZ picture with the standalone class, then convert the PDF with pdftoppm -png -r 300.
- Is the LaTeX to PNG converter free, and is my equation uploaded?
- It is free with no sign-up. Rendering and export happen in your browser, so the equation and the image never leave your computer.
