Paste up to 50 DOIs, ISBNs, PubMed IDs, arXiv IDs, links or titles, one per line, and every source is looked up, formatted and sorted in APA, MLA, Chicago, Harvard, IEEE or another style. Copy the finished list, download it, or export it as BibTeX.

Or fill in the fields below by hand. Check every citation against the source before you submit.

DOIs, arXiv IDs, ISBNs, PMIDs, URLs or titles. Lookups run one every two seconds.

What Is a Bibliography Generator?

Every Source on One List

A bibliography is the list of sources at the end of an essay, thesis or book. A bibliography generator turns each source into a correctly formatted entry and keeps the list in the order your style requires.

Paste Many at Once

Instead of citing one source at a time, paste a column of identifiers copied from your notes or reference manager. The bibliography generator looks each one up in turn and adds it to the list.

Switch Styles Without Retyping

The list is stored as structured data, so changing the style from APA to Chicago or IEEE reformats every entry and re-sorts or renumbers the whole list instantly.

Why Use Our Bibliography Generator?

Real Records, Not Guesses

Our bibliography generator reads Crossref, DataCite, PubMed, Open Library and the pages themselves, so authors, years and page numbers match the published versions.

Text, Download or BibTeX

Copy the formatted list with italics into Word or Google Docs, download it as a text file, or copy the same sources as BibTeX for a LaTeX .bib file.

Try the single citation generator

Private by Design

The list lives only in your browser. Close the tab and come back later, and it is still there; clear it whenever you start a new project.

Bibliography Generator FAQ

What is a bibliography?
The list of sources at the end of a piece of writing, giving enough detail for a reader to find each one. Chicago calls it a Bibliography, MLA calls it Works Cited and APA calls it References; a bibliography may also include works you consulted but did not cite.
How to do an annotated bibliography?
Format each source as a normal entry in your style, then add a paragraph of about 100–200 words beneath it that summarises the source and judges its value for your topic. Build the entries with the bibliography generator, then write the annotations yourself.
What is an annotated bibliography?
A bibliography in which every entry is followed by a short paragraph, the annotation, describing what the source says and how useful it is. Students write one to show they have read and assessed their sources before a larger project.
How to write a bibliography?
Collect the details of every source you used, format each in your required style, and list them alphabetically by author, or by number for IEEE and Vancouver. Paste the identifiers into the bibliography generator and it does the formatting and sorting.
How to write a bibliography in MLA format?
Title the page Works Cited, list sources alphabetically by author’s last name, double space them and use a hanging indent. Each entry follows the MLA core elements: Author. Title. Container, details, date, location.
How to do Chicago style bibliography?
Title the page Bibliography and list sources alphabetically by author surname with a hanging indent. Entries invert the first author’s name and separate elements with full stops: LeCun, Yann. Title. Publisher, Year. Choose Chicago in the bibliography generator to format it.
How to write a bibliography APA?
APA calls it References: centre and bold the heading, list sources alphabetically by first author, double space and indent each entry 0.5 inch. Choose APA 7 in the bibliography generator to format it.
Is a bibliography double spaced?
In APA and MLA, yes, like the rest of the paper. In Chicago and Turabian, each entry is single spaced with a blank line between entries, unless your instructor asks for double spacing throughout. The bibliography generator copies the entries; your document sets the spacing.
How to generate a bibliography in Word?
Word builds one under References > Bibliography from sources you added with Insert Citation. If your sources are not in Word, copy the list from the bibliography generator and paste it below your heading instead.
Is a bibliography the same as works cited?
Nearly. Works Cited, MLA’s term, lists only the sources you cite. A bibliography can also include background reading. APA’s References, like Works Cited, lists only cited sources. The bibliography generator works for all three: add the heading your style uses.
How to do a bibliography for a website?
Give the author or organisation, the page title, the site name, the publication date and the URL, plus an access date in some styles. Paste the link into the bibliography generator and these are read from the page.
What does a bibliography look like?
A titled list of entries in alphabetical order, each with a hanging indent. A Chicago entry reads: LeCun, Yann, Yoshua Bengio, and Geoffrey Hinton. “Deep Learning.” Nature 521, no. 7553 (2015): 436–44. Switch styles in the bibliography generator to compare them.
How to generate a bibliography in LaTeX?
Keep your sources in a .bib file, cite them with \cite{key}, and add \bibliography{refs} with a style such as plain or apalike, or \printbibliography with biblatex. Copy as BibTeX from the bibliography generator to start refs.bib.
What is the best bibliography generator?
One that looks sources up rather than asking you to type them, supports your style, lets you correct entries and exports in the form you need. Zotero is best for a long-term library; a web tool like this is fastest for one assignment.
Can the bibliography generator export BibTeX?
Yes. Copy as BibTeX turns every source in your list into a BibTeX entry with a citation key, ready to paste into a .bib file for LaTeX or Overleaf.
Can I build a bibliography from DOIs?
Yes. Paste a list of DOIs, one per line, and press Look up all. Each is resolved through Crossref or DataCite; any that fail are listed so you can check them.
Is this bibliography generator free?
Yes, with no account, no ads in the output and every style included. Lookups run at one every two seconds to keep the service fair for everyone.
Can I add many sources to the bibliography at once?
Yes, up to 50 per batch and 200 in the list. Lookups run one after another, about two seconds each, and you can stop the batch at any time.
