Convert a fileHow to make a publication list
Export your references as BibTeX
In Google Scholar, ORCID, Zotero, Mendeley or Overleaf, export your own papers as a .bib file, then paste it or upload it here. The publication list generator works in your browser, so the file is never sent anywhere.
Choose a format and a layout
Pick LaTeX for a CV, HTML for a website or Markdown for GitHub Pages and similar sites. Group the publication list by type or by year, sort it newest or oldest first, and number it counting down, counting up or not at all.
Add your name and copy
Type your name and every matching author is set in bold. Copy the publication list or download it, paste it into your CV or page, and re-run it whenever a new paper is added to your .bib file.
What each entry shows
Authors
In the publication list, authors keep their published order, written as A. Vaswani or as full names. Lists that end in "and others" in the .bib file end in et al., and editors are marked (eds.). Your name is matched by surname and first initial, with accents ignored, so A. Vaswani and Ashish Vaswani are both found.
Title, venue and details
The title comes next, then the venue in italics: the journal, the proceedings, the publisher, or "PhD thesis" with the school. Journal articles show volume(issue):pages, other entries pp. pages, then the year. A note such as "Under review" in the .bib entry is kept at the end.
Links
Each entry links to its DOI at doi.org, to its arXiv page when it has an arXiv number, or else to its URL. In LaTeX the links use \href, so the publication list needs the hyperref package; untick the option for a list without links.
Using the publication list
In a LaTeX CV
The LaTeX output is a \section* with a \subsection* for each group and itemize lists numbered [12], [11] and so on, so it needs no extra package for the numbers. It works in a plain article, in moderncv after changing \section* to \section, and in Overleaf CV templates.
On a website
The HTML output is a section with ordered lists, using the reversed attribute when counting down, ready to style with your own CSS; the preview shows it with plain styles. Markdown suits GitHub Pages, Jekyll and Hugo. Formulas in titles stay as $…$ for MathJax or KaTeX.
Clean the .bib file first
Exports from Google Scholar often contain duplicates, missing pages and lower-cased acronyms. Running them through the BibTeX cleaner first gives a tidier publication list.

Publication list questions
- How to list publications on resume?
- Add a Publications section near the end of the resume and list your most relevant papers with authors, title, venue and year, newest first, with your name in bold. This publication list generator writes that list from a .bib file.
- How to list publications on CV?
- An academic CV lists every publication, usually grouped into journal articles, conference papers, books and chapters, theses and preprints, in reverse chronological order and often numbered. In the publication list generator, Group by Type with Counting down gives exactly that.
- How to list publications under review in CV?
- List them as "Under review" or "Submitted to Journal", never as accepted. In the .bib entry put the status in note = {Under review} and leave out the year; grouped by year, such entries appear first under Forthcoming.
- How to make a publication list?
- Collect your papers in a .bib file, for example from Google Scholar or ORCID, paste it into the publication list generator, choose the format and grouping, and copy the result.
- What is a publication list?
- It is a complete list of what you have published, such as articles, conference papers, chapters, theses and preprints, with full bibliographic details. It is part of an academic CV and is often asked for in job and grant applications.
- How to list publications on resume with multiple authors?
- Keep the authors in the published order and set your own name in bold so readers see your position. Long author lists can end in et al. after your name; write and others at that point in the .bib entry.
- How to list only recent publications in resume?
- Sort the publication list newest first and keep the last few years: remove older entries from the pasted .bib text, or keep a separate .bib file of selected papers for the resume.
- How to get the list of publication from Google Scholar?
- Open your Google Scholar profile, tick the box above your articles to select them all, choose Export and then BibTeX, and paste the file here. Check the entries, because Scholar often lacks pages and DOIs.
- Are posters listed as publications?
- Papers in published proceedings are publications; posters and talks usually go in a separate Presentations section. Keep posters in their own .bib file and generate a second publication list for that section.
- Can I list thesis as publication?
- Yes. Most academic CVs include the PhD thesis, and often the master's thesis, under its own heading. In the generated publication list, phdthesis and mastersthesis entries appear under Theses with the school.
- How do I make a publication list in LaTeX?
- Choose LaTeX, copy the output into your CV and add \usepackage{hyperref} for the links. Another way is biblatex with \nocite{*}, but that needs a bibliography setup; the generated list is plain text you can edit directly.
- How do I put my publication list on a website?
- Choose HTML and paste the section into your page, or choose Markdown for a Jekyll, Hugo or GitHub Pages site. Re-generate the publication list from your .bib file whenever you add a paper.
- Is there a free publication list generator?
- Yes, this one. This publication list generator is free, needs no account and handles .bib files of up to 5 MB in your browser.
- Can my own name be highlighted in the author lists?
- Yes. Type your name as Ada Lovelace or Lovelace, A. and every author with the same surname and first initial is set in bold, whether the .bib file spells the name out or uses initials.
